Special Olympics IOWA 2026 Cheer Squad:

Thursday, May 21st

Registration opens soon.

The History:

The ICCA has partnered with Special Olympics Iowa to perform at their Summer Games Opening Ceremonies since 2006.  It is a very rewarding experience for both our cheerleaders and their athletes.

Participation and Fees:

  • There is no fee for 2026 participants.
  • ICCA member coaches may send up to 3 high school cheerleaders per school.
  • Due to space limitations of the performance floor, only the first 50 cheerleaders with complete registrations will be accepted.
  • It is preferred that a district-employed coach accompany cheerleaders.

Date and Responsibilities:

  • On May 21, 2026, cheerleader check-in at Hilton Coliseum will begin late morning.
  • Upon arrival, a light lunch will be provided by Special Olympics Iowa.
  • Practice of the cheer and pom routine will begin at noon.  All NFHS and ICCA rules will be followed.
  • A cheer clinic with the Special Olympians will follow practice at Lied Rec Center, 518 Beach Rd.
  • There will be a break for dinner on your own.
  • At approximately 6 pm, cheerleaders will return to Hilton in full uniform, including sleeves, for a group picture, routine review, and tunnel formation to welcome the Olympians.
